This course is designed to provide comprehensive Standard and Emergency level First Aid that can be applied in common situations or at accident scenes.
CONTENT
Topics covered include: emergency scene, secondary survey, unconsciousness, shock, artificial respiration, choking and severe bleeding.
Electives include: wound care, joints, head & spinal, etc.
DESCRIPTION
Standard First Aid Heartsaver Portion
The Standard First Aid part of the course is designed to provide comprehensive training for the general public, industry, business and those with a middle or senior education level. The course is open to persons 18 years of age and over. Subject matter will include emergency scene, secondary survey, shock, choking, unconsciousness, artificial respiration and severe bleeding. Electives include: wound care, bones and joints, head & spinal, and burns & poison. The Heartsaver Portion of the
course includes theoretical content on the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, risk factors & prudent heart living, recognition of cardiovascular disease & stroke, one-rescuer CPR (adult) and adult choking modalities.
CERTIFICATION
Certificate awarded with a "pass" by the Canadian Red Cross or the Heart Stroke Foundation.
